Greetings from Nicaragua

The weather is great, the beahces are beautiful and the beer is less than a buck. We'll be home sometime on Saturday. Reports are that there are plenty of trout and the tarpon have showed up. I'm looking forward to spending more time on the water instead of next to the water.

Costa Rica report

Danny and the Spanish Fly have had a consistent pick on the sails, 3-8/day with good tuna fishing and plenty of dorado. Yesterday they came across a huge tree in the water that was surrounded in life. 6 sailfish and 47 dolphin and tuna. The weather has been great, no wind and no rain except at night. Not bad for the "rainy season".

Brief Argentina report, 50 ducks in 50 minutes.

I'm back in Miami for a day. Anna and I are heading to Costa Rica late tomorrow night. I will be making/taking calls today and tomorrow on my cell, 252-671-3474 and will be checking e mail next week. Greg will be taking calls for the rest of the week, 252-671-5857.

I'll have pictures and a specific "body count" from the duck and dove hunting. It was a fantastic trip. Excellent service, unbelievable food and of course the hunting was great.

The duck hunting was spectacular. The limit is 50 ducks/hunter, we hunted two people/blind. We hunted in the mornings, a big lunch, then again in the afternoon. We killed 50 ducks/blind every morning and afternoon with the exception of one afternoon which was a little slow, only killing about half a limit.

The dove hunting was slower than it usually is, but picked up the last two days. On the last day, I quit after shooting 10 boxes of shells in about 2 hours, killing 120 doves. The high hunter was Russell Sheffield who killed 301 doves in one day.

More details to come.....

Schedule, contact info and open dates

On Saturday, June 10, I am heading to Argentina on a duck and dove hunt.

Incoming calls to 252-249-3101 will be forwarded to Capt. Greg Voliva. He can also be reached at 252-671-5857 or by his e mail address: fourseasonsgs@yahoo.com

I will be responding to e mails after about June 18.

Anna and I will be in Costa Rica on June 20, finalizing some details on this winter's Costa Rica trips. We will then be exploring some new fishing locations in Nicaragua, returning by July 1.

Capt. Ray Massengill and Capt. Greg Voliva will be running trips while I'm on the road. The speckled trout fishing is fabulous, cobia fishing should be good for another week or two and the tarpon are already starting to show. Don't forget Capt. Ray's flounder gigging trips and his awesome bottom fishing trips.

Between Ray and Greg, they have openings on June 11, 13, 15, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28.

Also get in touch with Greg about our last remaining July openings: 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 15, 17, 24, 25, 26, 31.

Pictures and stories about Argentina to come....

Monday w/Dr. Doug

What a crazy weather day. It was storming, then it wasn't, it was blowing, then it wasn't. We had a rough start of things and couldn't get it going, catching bait wasn't a problem, but we did have trouble finding a king mackeral to give it away to. A bite here and a bite there.

The sun came out and we started looking for the cobias. We found something VERY LARGE in a bait ball which ate a bucktail and proceeded to spool the reel until chafing through the leader.

Same story with a nice king that took another bucktail from us. We did manage to catch 3 small cobia and saw a couple others, but nothing for dinner. The clouds came and the tide was right for bait fishing. This 42 pounder saved the day.

Saturday and Sunday cobia report

Saturday was a nasty, blowing day and we resorted to bait fishing.......Got to try that more often.....After 5 minutes we were hooked up with a 56 pounder, followed by a 58.8 pounder that was good for 5th place in this weekend's cobia tourney. We also landed a 52 pounder later in the day.

Today we got a late start and came in early. We got back to the sight fishing, catching a 25 pounder and seeing one other that we couldn't get a bite out of. Plenty of spanish, blues and sharks.

Greg has been doing very good on the trout, catching 40-60 on half days with some nicer fish.

Saturday's 3 fish.

cobia on the fly.....

I thoroughly enjoyed fishing with my friends the last two days. On Wednesday with Capt. Phil "Ms. Sharon" Ambler and Pete DeVos. We managed to beat down a cobia, unfortunately the one we caught was faster to the jig than it's much larger parter.

Jim Cole and I charged out after them on a fly yesterady and managed to find one that would eat it, unfortunatley, we couldn't keep it "stuck". Here is a pic of one in the mid-30's that we released.

For those of you who haven't heard, Jim was with me on my annual run-out-of-gas trip.
