The Bahamas sucked
Anna and I went on an spur of the moment excursion to the Bahamas before Christmas. Perhaps if the weather wasn't so terrible, the trip would have been better. We fished with a guide for about 2 hours before the rain set in. We did see a couple fish, which means it's OK to be charged for a full day. The service everywhere we went was terrible and things were very expensive. Drop me a note for details, questions and more horror stories about our trip. This trip really made us appreciate Costa Rica Merry Christmas, George

Rumors of stripers at Drum Inlet
I got the call today from a friend of mine who was fishing for the bluefins outside of Drum Inlet today. He saw the gannets pounding along the beach and slipped inshore to investigate. He caught about a 20 pound striper on a ballyhoo. Another boat threw a cast net on the menhaden and ended up with plenty of menhaden and a 30 pound striper. Of course the wind has blown every day and we haven't been able to get out. We'll be hunting sea ducks over the next few days until the wind lays down.....hopefully on Saturday.

Have the big stripers arrived?
We made our first attempt at the big stripers on Saturday, charging out from Beaufort Inlet to the east side of the shoals and Drum Inlet. There were rumors that the first schools of south bound stripers were beginning to show. We found the gannets dive bombing a sizeable school of menhaden just on the west side of the shoals, but no stripers. On the way to Drum Inlet we "stopped and shopped" at several other mildly interesting patches of gannets scattered through a mountain of menhaden. All the ingredients were there but the fish were not. We remained fishless after about 80 miles of looking.
